Exercise - When Will I Begin to See Results? Part 2

Type of Exercise. Some will excel in one form of exercise or sport and founder in another. Years back I ran a 10k race. I had trained for months. I ran the whole way and I was happy with my time. A woman walked up to me and asked me what my time was. I told her. She said, “With your long legs you should be ashamed of yourself for doing so poorly”. Damn, that was harsh. I looked up the stats on the top eight finishers. They all weighed between 128 and 141 pounds. I preferred strength training to running. I was carrying close to 100 more pounds than they were. Because you do not excel in one aspect of fitness is not a reason to not do it. I continued to run, but my biggest improvement came in the weight room.

We tend to gravitate toward those activities in which we excel. That's fine. It is better than no exercise at all, but not as good as incorporating other aspects of fitness. To address all aspects of fitness - strength, leanness, endurance, protection from injuries, flexibility and strong bones - might involve doing more that just yoga, running ,or that sport where you excel. A exercise program that addresses those six aspects of fitness is high intensity interval training (HIIT). Some might improve quicker or more than others, but all can dramatically benefit over time. You will also find that the personal training we do will contribute to greater increases in performance for other activities as well.

At Kelly's Austin Personal Training and at New Orleans Ultimate Fitness trainers we have designed a personal training program where you will see the highest marginal return for your time spend. The type of personal training we do has similarities to the type of training described in the book Power of 10: The Once-A-Week Slow Motion Fitness Revolution by Adam Zickerman. If you look at the reviews of the book most of the reviewers had tried the method. Of the 55 reviews all but a handful were very pleased. All trainers should be able to guarantee that their clients will improve. We make that guarantee and have been successful. What we cannot do is guarantee that each and everyone will be pleased with their rate of progress. The factors mention in Parts 1,2, and 3 will play a determining role.
